Introduction
“Green, how I want you green, green wind, green branches…”. The voice that wrote these lines fell silent in the early hours of 18 August 1936, a month after the Civil War broke out, between Víznar and Alfacar. Federico García Lorca's body has never been found.
This route sets off from Plaza de Mariana Pineda, named after the historical figure Lorca paid tribute to in one of his works, and takes you by car along the foothills of the Sierra Nevada to the area where he was shot. There you'll walk a 1.5-kilometre route through Fuente Grande park, a memorial to the more than 5,000 people murdered in the area at the start of the war, and along the Lorca trail, to see how the landscape connects with the poet.
Along the way, the guide will tell you how the Lorca family's land stirred up envy and hatred towards him, and other episodes from the war linked to him.
It isn't a route about his work but about his end, so it's the perfect companion to the Lorca literary free tour of Granada or the route through Fuente Vaqueros and Valderrubio, where it all began.
How it works
