The house
Rosalía de Castro lived in this house in A Matanza, Padrón, with her husband, the historian Manuel Murguía, and her children, and it was here that she died in 1885. Today it is the house museum dedicated to her memory.
In 1947 the Rosalía de Castro Trust was set up to recover the house, which was restored in 1971. It now belongs to the Rosalía de Castro Foundation, which also promotes Murguía's legacy and looks after the writer's tomb in the church of San Domingos de Bonaval, in Santiago.

What you'll see on the visit
The reception area and an introduction to Rosalía de Castro's literary importance.
It recreates a country house of the period, somewhere between a farmhouse and a minor gentry home, with the kitchen, the dining room, two bedrooms and a library, as well as display cases with different editions of her works and objects that bear witness to her importance.
In Rosalía's day it was a vegetable garden; today it recreates a garden of the period. Three of its trees are listed in the Galician Catalogue of Singular Trees: Rosalía's fig tree, the Rosalía de Castro camellia and the poets' laurel.
