Introduction
Remember Dulcinea, the lady Don Quixote was so in love with? Her village exists, and it's El Toboso, without doubt one of the most famous in Castile-La Mancha. It owes its fame to her, which is why so many corners of the village have some link to the maiden Cervantes dreamt up.
The visit starts at the Pozo de la Gascona and takes you on foot around the village, discovering the legacy Cervantes left in its streets. The main stop is Dulcinea's House Museum, a large 16th-century farmhouse where, so the story goes, Ana Martínez Zarco, the woman who inspired the character, once lived. Its pottery, basketry and farming tools will show you how hidalgos lived in Cervantes's time.
Afterwards you'll see the outside of the Iglesia de San Antonio Abad and the Convento de las Trinitarias, and the visit ends next to the bullring.
And to keep following in Don Quixote's footsteps, in Ciudad Real there's the Don Quixote literary route, with admission to the Don Quixote Museum.
