Introduction
Would you like to travel back in time like Claire Randall? This Outlander route from Edinburgh takes you, with a Spanish-speaking guide, to the castles and villages where the series based on Diana Gabaldon's novels was filmed.
The first stop is Blackness Castle, a 15th-century fortress that becomes Fort William in the series, Jack Randall's headquarters, where Jamie is locked up. Next you'll reach Midhope Castle, the series' Lallybroch and Jamie Fraser's home, which has become almost a place of pilgrimage for fans. At Linlithgow Palace, where James V and Mary, Queen of Scots were born, you'll recognise the corridors of Wentworth Prison, and you can choose between strolling around the outside or visiting the inside.
In Doune, whose castle is the first place Claire arrives at after travelling back in time, you'll have an hour free for lunch. Then you'll pass through Culross, the series' Cranesmuir, with its Clock Tower, the setting for a witchcraft scene, and Falkland, the village that stands in for Inverness in the forties and sixties.
