Introduction
Pablo Neruda had a house high up in Valparaíso, La Sebastiana, looking out over the bay and the port that appear in his poems. This Pablo Neruda literary route takes you on foot up and down the hills that fed his poetry and his passion for the sea, and ends right there, inside his house.
The starting point is Plaza Sotomayor. From there you'll ride the Peral funicular up to Cerro Alegre, with your first views of the port, and from Paseo Yugoslavo the whole bay will open up before you, the same horizon the poet used to gaze at. Then you'll head down the Bevestrello steps to Pasaje Gálvez, with that bohemian air Neruda loved so much.
The route continues along Paseo Atkinson, among Victorian-style houses and the Lutheran and Anglican churches left behind by immigrants, and carries on through Cerro Concepción, now full of cafés and restaurants. To finish, a taxi will take you to La Sebastiana, where you'll walk through the rooms of the house the poet lived in.
How it works
It's a guided walk that goes up and down the hills on the city's funiculars and ends with a taxi ride to La Sebastiana, where the tour finishes.
