Introduction
Does the Cemetery of Forgotten Books really exist? This Shadow of the Wind literary route takes you around the Barcelona of Daniel Sempere, Fermín Romero de Torres and Julián Carax, to discover what's real in the novel Carlos Ruiz Zafón published in 2001.
The starting point is number 9 on the Rambla de Santa Mónica, the very spot where the story begins. From there you'll walk through Plaza Real, Calle del Call and Calle de Santa Ana, where the novel places the Sempere & Sons bookshop.
You'll carry on past Santa María del Mar and along Calle Montcada, past the Santa Lucía asylum and Els Quatre Gats, another of the key settings, and you'll finish next to the Ateneo Barcelonés, recalling the fortunes and misfortunes of the Semperes, Fermín, Beatriz Aguilar and Julián Carax.
How it works
It's a walk that sets off from the Rambla de Santa Mónica and ends at the Ateneo de Barcelona.
