Introduction
Between 1942 and 1944, Anne Frank lived in hiding with her family in the back of a house in Amsterdam, and the diary she wrote there has become one of the most widely read books of all time. This Anne Frank route explores the city's old Jewish Quarter, the Jodenbuurt, to understand how Amsterdam lived through the Nazi occupation.
From the square opposite the Portuguese Synagogue, you'll walk past the Auschwitz Monument and the statue of The Dockworker, while the guide tells you about some of the worst moments of the Second World War in the city, such as the February Strike and the Hunger Winter.
The route stops in front of the Anne Frank House, which you see from the outside, and ends in the centre of Amsterdam after about two hours.
